Why my family photography sessions are like no other
I am fascinated by how children see the world and, from the very first moments of your session, I’ll be naturally putting your whole family at ease with chit-chat and a calming presence so you’ll all feel totally relaxed. It’s a reason why so many of my clients come back each year for natural and authentic photographs and it brings me endless joy seeing their families grow over time.

Step out of the ordinary and into an adventure; the sessions I host are often in the woodlands or by the water’s edge for a naturally beautiful setting to explore. We will journey through your session and seek chinks of beautiful natural light and settings which celebrate the changing seasons. Your little ones will set the pace and, as you spend quality time as a family, I’ll expertly capture each magical moment.

What can I expect from an outdoor family session?
My outdoor sessions are perfect for children one and over. They are child-led, and I encourage exploration and play throughout the session for natural photographs which are all about personality and making new memories. The woodlands are an ideal location for your session, as they offer shade on brighter days and interesting finds to spark imagination as we go on a bear hunt or pick beautiful flowers from the woodland floor. In each session, I will capture solo portraits of each of the children as well as family portraits in different settings. I’ll also encourage you and your partner to have a few shots of just the two of you whilst the little ones play.
My sessions are ideal for groups of around five people. For larger gatherings, a little more shoot time may be required.
What is the duration of a family session?
Sessions vary in duration from twenty to thirty minutes for a mini session and an hour for newborn and family sessions. The mini sessions are held on specific days throughout the year at local beauty spots. These sessions are ideal for young families who are looking for authentic photographs which are full of personality and exploration. You will receive five to ten of your favourite, fine art, edited photographs, depending on your package, with the option to purchase more from your collection.
For families looking for more variation in your final collection, I recommend an hour-long, family session. We will head out together to a location of your choice or I can recommend lots of options too. Your final collection will be full of beautiful, solo portraits of the children, group images of the family and incredible candid moments full of love and magic.
Do you have experience of working with children at different ages?
I certainly do! I have a wealth of experience of working with and photographing children from birth to their teens. My sessions are always child-led, and I include time for feeds and cuddles in newborn sessions. I love to spend time to get to know each of you whilst working my magic behind the lens – it is this connection which translates beautifully into natural photographs and guarantees photographs which are authentic and full of personality.
When I’m not capturing private family sessions and weddings, I work with over 20 local schools and nurseries in the York area to capture over 1,000 school portraits each year.

What should we wear for our family session?
When you have booked your session, I will send you a welcome guide which is full of ideas on what to wear as well as other tips on how to prepare.
For family sessions, remember to coordinate as a family and complement one another tonally with your outfits to give your photographs a timeless, curated feel. Always avoid black, orange, yellows and clothes with busy patterns or motifs, as these don’t photograph well.
How and when will I receive my photograph collection?
You will receive your fine art, edited photographs via an online gallery which can be easily shared with your family and friends. Due to the time and attention I give each captured frame, your collection will be delivered within four weeks for family bookings.
How do I book you?
I’m so thrilled you’re looking to book a session with me! The next step is to enquire with your preferred date and I will check availability before sending an electronic contract and payment details.
For family sessions, 100% of the payment is due at the time of booking. Once your booking is confirmed, you’ll receive your very own welcome guide with my top tips on how best to prepare for your session.
